City of Plymouth youngster Annabelle Fasuba smashes her 60m PB with victory at the London Indoor Games

TEENAGER Annabelle Fasuba came agonisingly close to setting a new British age group record and a City of Plymouth record at the London Indoor Games on Saturday.

The 14-year-old double English Schools’ champion smashed her 60m PB to take victory in the under-17 girls’ race in a stunning time of 7.37 seconds.

That was just 0.03 of a second off both the new British under-17 record and Katherine Endacott’s senior City of Plymouth club record. It was also just 0.02 of a second off Katherine Merry’s UK record for a 14-year-old.

Fasuba levelled Merry’s under-15 200m record last summer and also broke the British 100m record for that age group, which was previously held by Jodie Williams.

She still has a couple of months competing at the under-17 age group indoors before dropping down to the newly-created under-16 age group for the outdoor season.

Another City of Plymouth athlete Adam Dingley continued his indoor season in America at the weekend by clocking 8.24 seconds in the men’s 60m hurdles at the Cyclone Open.

Meanwhile, Erme Valley Harriers’ Isabella Trowell finished 12th in the England Athletics U20 women’s pentathlon event in Sheffield.

It was her debut at under-20 level, where there are different hurdle settings and the shot is heavier, but she impressed and scored a PB of 2,997 points. She clocked 9.82 seconds for the 60m hurdles, set a high jump PB of 1.50m, leaped 4.81m in the long jump, threw 8.29m in the shot and ran 2:29.12 for the 800m.
