CITY of Plymouth’s sprint sensation Annabelle Fasuba opened her indoor season in style at the weekend by setting a new 60m personal best.
The 14-year-old double English Schools’ champion clocked a stunning time of 7.44 seconds to take overall victory in the women’s event at the Sutcliffe Indoor 60s in London.
Her time was just 0.1 of a second off the new British under-17 record set at the start of December by Gateshead’s Celine Obinna-Alo.
It also ranks Fasuba sixth on the all-time list at under-17 level, just behind World Championship medallist Amy Hunt, who sits in fifth spot.
The Plymouth athlete was making her debut at under-17 level at the weekend but come the outdoor season she will be in the new under-16 age group.
Fasuba won all before her at under-15 level and broke the British 100m record and levelled Katherine Merry’s 200m record, with times of 11.51 seconds and 23.72 seconds, respectively.
Her younger sister Oluwatoyin also competed at the Sutcliffe Indoor meeting. She won the under-12 girls’ category and ran 8.90 seconds in the heats and 9.05 seconds in the final.
