WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Plymouth Argyle beat Watford to progress in the FA National League Cup

PLYMOUTH Argyle reached the last 16 of the FA Women’s National League Cup on Sunday by beating their league rivals Watford 3-0 away.

Their reward for their impressive victory is a home match against fellow Southern Premier Division side Oxford United on November 9.

The Pilgrims headed to Hertfordshire on Sunday keen to prove a point against previously unbeaten league leaders Watford, who had overcome them 2-0 away in August, which is Argyle’s only defeat so far this season.

And the visitors took the lead just before half-time when Olivia Francis pounced at the back post after a good cross from Ellie Noble.

Three minutes after the interval, Argyle doubled their lead when a Layla Proctor header bounced off the woodwork and the ball fell at the feet of Tianna Teisar, who fired it home.

It got even better for the Greens four minutes later when Francis claimed her second of the afternoon with a fine finish from just inside the box.

Saltash United eased through to the next round of the Cornwall Women’s Cup with a 17-2 home win over Wendron United.

Lucy Grose hit six of the Ashes goals, with Olivia Lennox netting four times.

There were braces for Gracie Procter and Bethan Prouse, while Harriet Martin, Nicola Symons and Shania Fenior were also on the scoresheet for the hosts.

However, Callington Town’s Cornwall Cup progress came to an end as they went down 10-0 at higher league St Dennis.

SB Oak Villa suffered their first league defeat of the season in the Devon Women’s Premier Division as they went down 3-2 away at Braunton.

Rebecca Coutts and Mia Dulling scored for Oak Villa as they led 2-1 at the break, but the hosts took the three points with strikes from Ruby Hern (2) and Anya Burley.

There was also frustration for Plympton in the same division as they were held 4-4 at home by Bideford.

Lois Igalawuye scored twice for Plympton, with Sammy Nazif and Melissa Yabsley also on the scoresheet for the hosts. Lucy Reed scored a hat-trick for Bideford.

Horrabridge Rangers stayed top of the Devon South & West Division after they came from 2-0 down to beat Plainmoor 5-2.

Toni Allen bagged a hat-trick for Rangers, who also had Leah Parnell-Moses and Katie Cox on the scoresheet.

There was a good game at Tor Bridge High where hosts Elm United just edged out Hunter District 5-4.

Ella Parrott (2), Crystal-Mae Pollock (2) and Freya Lane scored for Elm, while Mollie Dring (3) and Channon Hodge netted for ever-improving Hunter’s.

In another city derby, Plymouth Marjon narrowly beat Plymouth True Blues 2-1 at Millbay Park.

Samantha Cox and Phoebe White scored Marjon’s goals, while Lily Daw replied for True Blues.

Elm Fusion claimed the biggest win of the weekend, overcoming a battling Lakeside Athletic team 28-0.

Michelle McGuire got nine goals, while Roxanne Byrne was just behind with eight. Lucia Webb managed to claim five, with Lauren Hewings bagging a hat-trick. Neve Frickleton and Megan Mitchell were also on the scoresheet.
