CITY of Plymouth sprint sensation Annabelle Fasuba wrote her name in the record books again on Saturday.
The two-times English Schools’ champion broke the British under-15 record for the 100m at the BFTTA Open at Lee Valley.
Fasuba clocked a stunning time of 11.51 seconds to beat Jodie Williams’ previous record of 11.56 seconds, which had stood since 2008.
Despite only being 14 years-old, Fasuba is now in the world’s top 20 under-18s and is the third fastest European under-18 over the 100m.
Her time was also quicker than the likes of British stars Dina Asher-Smith, Amy Hunt and Daryll Neita ran when they were at under-17 level. She is also just 0.06 of a second off Commonwealth Games medallist Katherine Endacott’s senior City of Plymouth’s club record.
And only the wind denied Fasuba a new British 200m record on Saturday.
She clocked 23.47 seconds to win her heat of the 200m, which is 0.25 of a second quicker than the current British record which she shares with Katharine Merry, but unfortunately the wind was over the legal limit.
Fasuba had equalled Merry’s record set in 1989 on her way to gold at this year’s English Schools’ Championships in July.
Meanwhile, fellow City of Plymouth athlete Poppy Tank impressed in an England vest on Saturday.
Tank, making her return from injury, finished third in the senior women’s elite race at the Home Nations’ 5k in Cardiff.
She was only beaten by Alex Bell, who took the win, and Holly Dixon in the event, which took place in torrential rain.
Olympian Bell took victory in 15.46, with Dixon clocking 15.56 for second, Tank finishing in 16.04, with Lucy Jones fourth in 16.08.
