TAMAR Trotters’ Bex Ezra-Ham made sure there was a home club winner at the Magnificent 7 race at Saltash on Sunday morning.
Ezra-Ham stormed to the women’s title in the tough seven-mile run in a time of 43 minutes and 16 seconds – and came eighth overall.
Second female was City of Plymouth’s Annie Arnold, who clocked 43.59 minutes.
Those two were well clear of the rest of the women’s field, with Tamar Trotters’ Ayesha Gillespie taking third place in 52.17 minutes.
Having two athletes inside the top three did help host club Tamar Trotters win the women’s team title ahead of Hayle.
The men’s race was once again dominated by west Cornwall athletes.
Truro’s Steve Reynolds claimed a comfortable victory in a time of 38.55 minutes, with Cornwall AC’s Kenny Gibson second in 41.19 and Newquay Road Runners’ Jamie Edwards third in 41.56 minutes.
Hayle won the men’s team title, ahead of Truro.
Storm Plymouth’s Catherine Brown was first F50, while Tavistock’s Anthony Shearer took victory in the M70 category.
There were age group runners-up prizes for Alex Peyton-Jones (M45), Plymouth Harriers’ Reymond Tew (M50) and Tamar Trotters’ Anthony Worthington (M55).
Some 372 runners finished the race, which was up nearly 100 of last year’s figure.
The event is part of the Cornwall Grand Prix Series and takes runners from Saltash Rugby Club out on country roads to Elmgate and back around via Forder Lake.
However, this year’s race was unable to start and finish on the rugby field as normal due to pitch works going on at Moorlands Lane.
Prior to the main race there was a fun run aimed at junior athletes.
