City of Plymouth high jumper Glyde makes winning start to his outdoor season in America

CITY of Plymouth athlete Ethan Glyde enjoyed a winning start to his outdoor season in America.

Commonwealth Youth Games champion Glyde, who is in the first year of a scholarship at Iowa University, took victory in the men’s high jump at the UCF Black & Gold Invitational in Florida at the weekend.

Glyde leaped 2.09m to beat a large field of 32 athletes. He is currently ranked in the UK’s top 10 senior men and is second in the under-20 rankings behind new British indoor senior champion Otis Poole.

He will no doubt be hoping to challenge his PB of 2.15m later in the season.

Meanwhile, the outdoor season is just beginning to get underway in the UK.

City of Plymouth AC will be holding their Spring Warm-Up Meeting on Sunday, April 6.

The event is open for all age groups from under-eight (panthers) to seniors and masters athletes.

Track races will range from 50m to 1,500m, while all field events will be on offer.
