Young BMX brothers riding high after completing their second season at national level

TWO young BMX riders are dreaming of reaching the top of their sport after successfully completing their second year in the National Series.

Lucas and Jack Belton have fallen in love with the Olympic sport and are now regularly travelling around the country.

Nine-year-old Jack is also now looking forward to his first international competition after qualifying for the 2025 World Championships in Copenhagen.

For the past two years, Jack has finished in the top seven in his age group, finishing third last year and seventh this.

He did qualify to compete at this year’s World Championships, but they were in America and would have cost too much to attend.

Eleven-year-old Lucas is also proving successful in the older age group, finishing in the top 22 twice in two years.

Mother Ellen said: “They have ridden bikes from the age of three, but I initially took Lucas at six years-old to the Decoy BMX track in Newton Abbot and he fell in love with it. Jack started pretty soon after that, always wanting to be like his big brother!

“They started off just training, but then competed in some local races and were hooked.

“We now attend coaching twice a week and they have just completed their second year of national races, travelling to Scotland, Manchester, Birmingham and Cyclopark in Kent.”

She added: “BMX racing has definitely become more popular in recent years and they idolise the Olympic athletes and other great riders closer to home.

“It’s taught them so much about resilience and their determination is amazing.

“They both dream of reaching the top of their sport.

“It is an expensive sport and obviously we have two children so we were grateful to a local car sales garage who supported them this year and they now wear new jerseys with the Plympton Car Centre logo on, other sponsors would also be greatly appreciated.”
