City of Plymouth’s Dingley moves up European U18 rankings, while Battershill opens his season with win

CITY of Plymouth’s Adam Dingley has moved up into European’s top four under-18 sprint hurdlers after breaking his personal best to win at the Run with the Wind event at Cardiff.

Dingley clocked 13.92 seconds to take victory in the under-18 110m hurdles event, pipping fellow Devon athlete Joshua Taylor, who ran in the same race.

The City of Plymouth hurdler is in his first year as an under-20 athlete, but he still qualifies for under-18 level and he is trying to qualify for the European Under-18 Championships in Slovakia this summer.

He has achieved the European standard, but British Athletics’ own qualifying mark for the championships is lower at 13.70 seconds.

His run in Cardiff puts him as only one of only four European athletes to run under 14 seconds for the event and he will be hoping to lower his best in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, British steeplechase champion Will Battershill opened his season on Monday at the BMC Bannister Miles event in Oxford.

Battershill has been struggling with an early season injury, but he returned to action by winning the inaugural one-mile steeplechase event in 4:25.81.

The former Ivybridge Community College athlete does already have the 3,000m steeplechase time for the European Senior Championships and he is keen to show his form in the next few weeks to earn selection for the event in Italy next month. He is also aiming for the Olympic Games qualifying mark.

+ The Armada Summer 5k Series continues tonight at Saltram House. The run starts at 7pm, but runners should registration before 6.30pm. More details can be found HERE.
