CARADON Swimming Club have added training sessions at Mount Kelly’s Olympic pool and the St Mellion International Resort as they look to continue the progress they have made over the last few years.
The club, whose training locations have traditionally been at Saltash and Liskeard, ended 2019 by winning promotion to Western Division One of the National Arena League and have started 2020 by shinning at the Cornwall County Age Group Championships.
Caradon had 41 swimmers competing in 347 races at the county competition and they achieved 200 personal best times. Lucy Atkin, Megan Daniel, Evie Dawe, Aron Holtan, Jayden Honey, Frankie Howe, Jasmine Jeffreys, Lily Johns, Caitlin Lockie, Ciaran Lockie, Kitty Newman, Jack Taylor and Kieran Woodhouse all claimed PBs in every race they swam.
They also had 19 Cornwall champions, 75 top three finishes and 141 top six finishes.
Head Coach Jason Quiterio said: “To see the progress our club has made over the past two years is truly amazing.
“To have 200 personal best times set and seven county champions in 19 events from a range of ages demonstrates our strength in depth and the potential for the club going forward.
“This is the result of a fantastic support team; from coaches, young volunteers, officials and our hard-working committee and chairman.
“Like every Cornish swimming club, as a result of pool price increases and a lack of council support towards leisure, the past 12 months have been a challenge. Luckily, we have been able to add two weekly sessions at Mount Kelly, Tavistock, in their Olympic standard facility to our programme as well as receiving fantastic support from St Mellion International Resort, who have given us access to their pool for morning training sessions.
“With all their support and the added pool time they have offered us, we are able to continue to progress as a club and look forward to our next big meet, which is the South West regional events in May.”
