ATHLETICS: King third at IAAF Challenge Meeting in Finland, while Fletcher wins Armada 5k

CITY of Plymouth international hurdler David King lowered his season’s best with a third-placed finish at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Turku, Finland.

King ran 13.56 seconds to claim bronze in the 110m hurdles final behind Brazil’s Eduardo De Deus and Italy’s Hassane Fofana.

That was quicker than the 13.58 second run he produced to take second place at the Josefa Odlozila Memorial Meeting in Prague last week.

King’s target is 13.46 seconds, which is British Athletics’ qualifying time for this year’s World Championships.

Meanwhile, Plymouth Harriers’ Steve Fletcher was comfortably first home in June’S Armada Summer 5k Series run at Saltram Park on Wednesday evening.

Fletcher clocked 16.43 minutes for the multi-terrain run around the National Trust property to finish one minute and 17 seconds ahead of his club team-mate John Porter, who was second in 18.00 minutes. Plymstock Road Runners’ Graham Bale was third in 18.16 minutes.

Freya Porter was first women in 19.36 minutes, with City of Plymouth’s Talia Sullivan second in 20.26, with Erme Valley youngster Bella May just behind in 20.29.
