Plymouth’s Jones and Tavistock’s Cressey win medals at South West indoor event in Cardiff

CITY of Plymouth’s Noah Jones and Tavistock’s Luke Cressey both won medals at the South West Indoor Championship event held in Cardiff.

Jones started his year in tremendous form with two podium finishes and a new PB.

He knocked more than a second off his 60m hurdles previous best to win bronze medal in the under-13 boys’ event in a time of 11.47 seconds.

Jones then went and won silver medal in the under-15 boys’ pole vault.

He had to compete up an age group in the pole vault event as there was no under-13 competition.

However, he was more than a match for his older rivals taking second with 2.40m, which equalled his PB and puts him at the top of the early UK under-13 rankings.

Jones finished 2016 as the UK’s sixth best under-13 pole vaulter in his first season in that age group, but this year he has his eyes on top spot.

His dad, Howard, says his son is not lacking for motivation or role models at the moment training with City of Plymouth AC.

“With so many athletes from the club doing so well lately, especially Victoria Weir, he has lots of inspiration around him,” said Howard.

Jones is also excelling at gymnastics and trains with Plymouth Swallows and Ivybridge Community College’s gymnastics academy.

Meanwhile, Tavistock’s Cressey won silver in the under-17 boys’ long jump with a leap of 5.40m.
