City of Plymouth youngsters pick up South West Indoor Championship medals in Cardiff

CITY of Plymouth athletes Evie Welsh, Finley Bennett, Eloise Morley and Shara Ingleby all won medals at the latest round of the South West Indoor Age Group Championships in Cardiff.

Welsh took regional victory in the under-13 girls’ 800m. She clocked 2:32.35 to win by a massive 10 seconds.

Bennett also competed over the half-mile distance and finished second South West athlete in the under-17 boys’ race, clocking 2:08.31. He had also won a bronze medal in the 400m at the first round of the championships in December.

Ingleby, who has just moved up to under-13 level, returned from the Wales capital with two South West medals. She claimed a silver in the shot put with a throw of 6.42m and took bronze in the 60m hurdles, behind under-13 team-mate Morley, who won silver with a time of 11.38 seconds.

Club colleague Anya Findlay had won a silver medal in the under-15 girls’ 200m at the previous round with a time of 28.41 seconds.

Meanwhile, City of Plymouth’s Adam Dingley got his indoor season underway in America at the weekend, where he is at college. He took fourth place in the men’s 60m hurdles at the Alex Jarrett Invitational, clocking 8.55 seconds.
