Western West side Oaks had the better of the opening 25 minutes, but mistakes and a poor line-out prevent them from opening the scoring.
And on the stroke of half-time, Ivybridge took the lead with a try from young number eight Joe Owen, which fellow youngster Harry Newman-Wild converted.
Oaks, who made wholesale replacements, did find themselves further behind straight after the interval when impressive Ivybridge winger Jack Guyver, another former colt, scored in the left corner and Newman-Wild converted.
The home side did pull a try back when number eight Ollie White showed good strength to touch-down and Lewis Paterson added the conversion.
But Regional Two South West side Ivybridge sealed the game with further tries by Guyver and hooker Owen Garner, which were both converted by Newman-Wild.
Ivybridge head coach Steve Atkinson says the club are really keen to build around their young players this season.
“I think I counted six new lads, so I was really happy with that,” said Atkinson. “Our two wingers were only 18 year-olds and they looked pretty exciting.
“We are a really young side and we are putting a lot of emphasis on the colts that have come up this year. We just want them to go out and do what they can do.
“Over the next two or three years we are hoping we can build on these young lads and get back to where we want to be.”
He added: “There are definitely still a few work-ons.
“I knew that they (Oaks) would really come at us in the first 15 minutes, which I was really glad about as we had to work on our defensive set.”
Defence is something Atkinson admits they have been working hard on in pre-season.
That is likely to be put to the test next week when they play higher league Devonport Services.
“We know that is going to be a proper test,” said Atkinson.
Oaks head coach Lewis Paterson was happy with the way his side started the game and that they gave lots of players opportunities, but he knows they need to work-on their line-out and turning possession into points.
“It is still pre-season and we are still getting used to things,” said Paterson.
“We did get through a lot of players and were able to rotate well, but unfortunately maybe that disrupts things a bit.
“I think in the first 25 we really controlled the tempo of the game, and our ‘D’ was good.
“I think there was a lot we can take from that.
“It is just about when we are in those key areas that we have to capitalise. We could have been two of three scores up had we done that. So, that’s a work-on, but that’s what pre-season is about.”
Oaks will finish their pre-season campaign with a match against Crediton, another higher league side.
“I think we might try and work on the finer points in that game,” said Paterson. “But also reward boys that are training and making an effort.
“We will look on working on certain areas and trying to fix that line-out.”
Meanwhile, Ivybridge’s second team, the Vandals, beat their Brixham counterparts 34-26 at Cross-in-Hand on Friday night.
