GALLERY: Summers edges out Milward to win the Plymouth 5k, while Reid storms to victory in the women’s race

THERE was a good battle for the Plymouth 5k title in torrential rain on Sunday.

Hayle’s Jake Summers just pipped Erme Valley Harriers’ Charlie Milward to the crown by three seconds.

Summers clocked a gun-time of 19.02 minutes, with Milward, who was twice directed the wrong way which lost him valuable time, finishing in 19.05 minutes.

There was an impressive run by City of Plymouth’s Holly Reid, who finished third overall and first woman in 19.09 minutes.

City of Plymouth’s under-13 athlete Lucas Sweeney also clocked the same gun-time as Reid to finish fourth overall and third male.

Another City of Plymouth youngster, Sebastian Travers took fifth place overall.

Eleanor Webster was second woman in 20.35 minutes, with Hayley Smith third in 21.40 minutes.

City of Plymouth’s Hayley Marriott was first F50, while Plymstock Road Runners’ Mark Greaves (M45) and Ian Lamerton (M55) were both age group winners, as was Plymouth Harriers’ Jon Scott (M40).

The Plymouth 5k runners probably got the worst of the weather at the start, with torrential rain making in tough for them. However, 449 runners did finish the race.
