GALLERY: OPMs successfully host Devon girls’ festival at King George V Playing Fields

AROUND 350 girls descended on King George V Playing Fields at Elburton on Sunday as OPMs held the Devon Under-14 and U12 rugby festivals.

Clubs from all around the county took part, as well as Cornish sides Redruth and Launceston.

Local clubs represented included host side OPMs, Ivybridge and a joint Devonport Services and Tavistock team, who battled it out for county honours against representatives from the likes of Crediton, Kingsbridge, Newton Abbot, South Molton, Teignmouth, Cullompton, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Barnstaple, Okehampton and Paignton.

Newton Abbot took victory in the under-14 competition, with Ivybridge taking runners-up spot.

A OPMs spokesperson described the event as an ‘unbelievable day’.

They added: “What a terrific weekend. Amazing to watch these young players compete and enjoy the rugby, share the values and enjoy the sunshine.

“So many fantastic players, incredible support and amazing weather bringing the summer vibes for an awesome festival experience.

“Well done to all involved but especially our OPMs girls, players, coaches, spectators and organisers. Another brilliant festival provided by the club.”

OPMs had successfully held a similar festival the previous year and were picked again as a host.

All four rugby pitches at King George V Playing Fields were used and the club also arranged for an ice-cream van and bouncy castle to turn up, to go alongside with food and drink offered in the clubhouse.
