GALLERY: Page scores a hat-trick as Services III come from behind to beat Tavistock II in Pedrick Cup final

A second-half hat-trick by veteran Joe Page helped Devonport Services III produce an impressive comeback to retain the Pedrick Cup against Tavistock II at Brickfields on Wednesday night.

Tavistock II had led 21-3 at half-time, but four second-half tries secured the Devonport XV a narrow 27-26 victory in the Plymouth Combination cup final.

In front of a decent-sized crowd at Plymouth Albion’s ground, Services III had taken the lead with a penalty from scrum-half Rohan Johnson in the 11^th minute.

But in the final 15 minutes of the first half, Tavistock II took control of the match.

Number eight Calum Baker scored a try from the back of a scrum in the 28^th minute after Services had knocked on in their own 22. Solly Hunter added the conversion.

And almost straight from the restart, Tavistock II scored again when winger Logan Sulsh broke down the right and ran in under the posts.

Three minutes later, Baker added a second converted try after a good run and off-load by Harry Ball.

However, Services III came out fired up for the second half and within five minutes they had cut the lead when Matt Witcher scored next to the posts following a five-metre scrum.

Page, who had come on as a replacement, got his first try in the 52^nd minute when he touch-down following a pick-and-go after Services III had attacked from a tap penalty. Johnson added the conversion to cut Tavistock II’s lead to just six points.

And that gap was soon down to just one point when Page scored again, but this time in the left corner.

Tavistock II did rally and after some intense pressure, Mac Tuckwell eventually scored to edge his side 26-20 in front.

But three minutes before time, Page scored again and Johnson converted to give his side a one-point win.
