PLYMOUTH Argyle had a tough road trip on Sunday as they were beaten 5-0 away at fourth-placed Watford in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
Watford scored four of their goals at Vicarage Road in the opening 23 minutes.
Argyle did regroup and had some good chances of their own, but the damage had been done in the opening quarter of the match.
Jessie Gale gave Watford the lead after just seven minutes and then two goals within the space of a minute followed courtesy of Florence Fyfe and Bianca Baptiste.
Lucy Lyon added their fourth on 23 minutes, but they then had to wait until the 81st minute to add their fifth courtesy of Madison Perry.
Argyle’s loss followed on from a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Exeter City on Wednesday night and leaves them in the bottom two, but they are just one point and one place behind Billericay Town.
In the South West Women’s League Premier Division, leaders Marine Academy Plymouth continued their impressive form with a 7-0 away win at St Austell.
Recent signing Chloe Kind bagged two goals in Cornwall, with Kelsey Blight, Milly Klinkenberg, Beth Overton, Holly Reid and captain Samantha Drewery also on the scoresheet.
South West Division One South leaders Plympton reached the Devon Premier Cup final by beating Honiton 3-0 at home on Sunday.
Isabelle Firth scored two of Plympton’s goals, with Dionne Igalawuye also netting.
Their league title rivals Saltash United also enjoyed a 3-0 cup win on Sunday. They beat Bodmin away in the Cornwall Cup thanks to goals from Liv Lennox, Nicola Champion and Hannah Prisk.
In the Devon Women’s league South & West Division, leaders Horrabridge Rangers had to battle hard for a 1-0 away victory at Lakeside Athletic.
Victoria Jasper scored the only goal of the game just 30 seconds into the second half.
Chances were few and far between in the first period and late on the Horrabridge goalkeeper had to make a couple of fine saves as Lakeside pushed for an equaliser.
Elm United stay in second place after they beat Paignton Villa 3-1 away.
SB Oak Villa upset third-placed Shaldon Villa 3-2 at Weston Mill. Amy Pridham netted twice for Oak Villa, who also had Saskia Brisley scoring.
Their neighbours Signal Box also claimed a win on Sunday. They overcame ever-improving Hunters District 5-2 away. Ellie Pearce scored a hat-trick for Signal Box, with Melanie Finch and Addy Hitt claiming their other goals.
Elsewhere in that division, Louise McLeod scored her first goal for Tavistock as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Plainmoor.
In the Cornwall Women’s League, Saltash Borough dug deep to beat FXSU 2-1 away thanks to goals from Ella Stevens and Stacey Gill.
