PLYMOUTH Argyle will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Devon rivals Exeter City under the Home Park floodlights on Wednesday evening in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division (7.45pm).
The Pilgrims go into the match sitting in the relegation zone after losing 2-0 away to Lewes on Sunday.
Argyle went behind after just nine minutes in East Sussex with Sam Quayle netting for the home side.
And after the interval Paula Howells added a second for Lewes to give them the three points and move them up to seventh and six points clear of Argyle.
The Greens are currently five points away from safety, but they do have games in hand on the teams above them.
A win on Wednesday against fifth-placed Exeter would put them in a much better position, but the Grecians have only lost twice since earning promotion.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to rectify the result from Sunday,” said Argyle manager Ryan Perks. “Hopefully, the girls can put on a performance for the occasion.”
In the South West Women’s Premier Division, third-placed Marine Academy Plymouth bounced back from their first defeat of the season in style by overcoming Frampton 5-0 away on Sunday.
Beth Overton and Amy Pridham both scored twice for Marine, who had lost to leaders Forest Green Rovers the week before, with Carmen Morison netting their other goal in Dorset.
In South West Division One, Saltash United and Plympton both continued their winning starts to the season.
The Ashes enjoyed a 6-0 away win at Honiton Town, with Hayley Ranachan (2), Jade Bryan, Olivia Lennox, Samantha Reid and Libby Jennings netting their goals as they made it four wins out of four in the league.
Plympton, meanwhile, overcame Feniton 4-0 at home with Elsa Finnegan (2), Sam Metters and Bella Brown-Tunnell on target for them. They have won three out of three since earning promotion.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, Horrabridge continued their 100 per cent start with a 5-1 away victory at Plainmoor. Toni Allen (2), Leesa Grainger, Leah Parnell-Moses and Kerry Gibbings scored for Rangers.
SB Oak Villa enjoyed a 6-1 away win at Hunters District. Rachel Finch, Natalie Shekhdar and Rebecca Richards all netted twice for Oak Villa.
Elsewhere, Leni Leach and Phoebe White were on target as Signal Box beat Paignton Villa at Manadon.
