PLYMOUTH’S Tom Daley scooped his fifth Olympic Games medal on Monday morning as he and his Team GB diving partner Noah Williams took silver in the men’s 10m platform event in Paris.
It means Daley, who was making a record-breaking fifth Olympic Games appearance, has now completed the full set of medal colours after previously winning three bronze medals and a gold.
Daley and Williams produced an almost flawless display to finish with 463.44 points, but Lian Junjie and Yang Hao of China pulled out all the stops to take gold with a massive 490.35 points.
Those two pairs were well ahead of the next teams, with the Canada team of Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens claiming bronze with 422.13 points.
Daley, who had come out of retirement to compete at a fifth Olympic Games, was over the moon at bagging another medal.
“It’s just so special,” said Daley. “This time last year, deciding to come back, and not knowing whether I would make the synchro team, let alone qualify for a spot at the Olympics.
“And now to be here in Paris, diving in front of my son, who is just right there and actually asked me to come back, it’s just so special. It completes the set. I now have one of every colour.”
