GALLERY: Doney smashes her PB to move into UK’s top 15 at Tavistock meeting

TAVISTOCK under-15 athlete Charlotte Doney smashed her discus personal best to move into the UK’s top 15 at her club’s latest summer series meeting.

Doney threw 27.42m, which was nearly three metres further than she had managed before to take victory. She was also first under-15 girl in the 200m in 29.1 seconds.

Club colleague Owen Fileman, who is also in the UK’s top 15, won the under-15 boys’ discus event on Wednesday with 31.44m, while Isabelle Doney took victory in the under-13 girls’ discus event with 21.57m.

Entries might have been low on numbers, but there was a high standard triple jump event. Home athlete Matthew Jenkins won the U17 boys’ event with a new PB of 10.18m, while Tavistock’s Katelyn Milburn and Erme Valley’ Isabella Trowell enjoyed a great battle in the U15 girls’ event.

Milburn, who is ranked in the UK’s top 20 with 9.89m, managed to win on a dark and cold evening with a leap of 9.59m, but Trowell was not far behind with a big new PB of 9.45m, which moves her in the UK’s top 40.

Trowell also set a new PB to win the U15 girls’ javelin with 20.25m, while Jenkins set a new discus PB of 29.78m to win the U17 boys’ competition.

Tavistock’s Toby Allott had a good evening. He won the U11 long jump with a new PB of 3.85m and also won the U11 75m. Mabel Maguire won the U11 girls’ long jump with 3.44m.

There was a good battle in the 1,500m where Exeter’s under-17 athlete won in 4:45.9, but City of Plymouth’s Isaac Lamerton, an under-15 runner, was just behind in 4:47.4.

Tavistock’s U15 runner Noah Reid won the 800m, while City of Plymouth under-11 athletes Finley Eales and Jazz Jackman pushed each other along in the 600m. Eales finished strongly in the final 100m to clock 2:02.7, with Jackman clocking 2:05.0 to finish as first girl. Jackman also won the girls’ 75m, while Eales was first U11 in the 150m.

Tavistock’s Joe Wake was first U15 boy in the 100m and 200m with 13.2 and 26.1 seconds, respectively, while club colleague Seth Taopo was first U17 in the 100m with 12.4.

There was a tight finish in the U13 girls’ 150m where Tavistock’s Erin Cockle just edged out her club colleague Isabelle Doney by 0.1 of a second. Cockle clocked 22.4 and Doney 22.5.
