GALLERY: Pictures from the annual Erme Valley Relays at Ivybridge

ERME Valley Harriers’ women’s A team produced an impressive display to take victory as their club hosted their annual relay event at Ivybridge Rugby Club on Wednesday evening.

Some 89 teams of four took part in the relays, which see each athlete run two-and-a-half miles.

Erme Valley’s women’s team of Alison Thorn, Cleo Perry, Faith Taylor-Tippett and Alison McEwing were the quickest female team by more than two-and-a-half minutes, clocking 60.54 minutes.

City of Plymouth’s 15-year-old girls were the second female team and claimed the under-18 prize, finishing in 63.29 minutes. Their side was made up of Verity Tank, Molly Gilbey, Martha Wilson and Molly Shorey, who ran the fastest female leg, clocking 14.43 minutes.

South West Road Runners’ Nicky Savill (15.00) and Erme Valley’s Alison McEwing (15.01) were the next quickest women.

Exmouth Harriers’ were third female team, just ahead of City of Plymouth U18s and East Cornwall Spring Chickens. Tavistock Talkers took the F45 team prize.

South West Road Runners comfortably won the men’s race in 51.37 minutes, with a quartet of Tom Humphreys, Gareth Davies, Sam Hopton and Ollie Thorogood, who ran the fastest leg of the evening with a 12.26 split. Hopton had the second fastest leg. They had also won the Tavistock Relays last week.

Tamar Trotters’ A team of Pearce Hancock, Ollie Oldfield, Rich Ham and Luke Atwood took second place on Wednesday in 54.24 minutes, with Tavistock Run Project’s quartet of Jim Cole, Ray Tew, Jake Hughes and Alex Peyton-Jones third in 54.47. Plymouth Harriers and Erme Valley Harriers were not far away in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Erme Valley were brought home by Joe Battershill, who ran the third fastest leg of the day, clocking 12.54 minutes, with was just two seconds ahead of Tavistock Run Project’s Jim Cole and Plymouth Harriers’ Johnny Gilby, who were joint fourth fastest.

City of Plymouth’s Isaac Lamerton was the quickest under-18 boy as his team finished second junior team behind Torbay AC.

Meanwhile, this Saturday the Cornwood 10k returns for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.
