Plymouth athletes break records at Cornwall Track & Field Championships

CITY of Plymouth’s Poppy Northcott, Jed Hutchings, Jacob Lamboll and Lamara Hammoudeh all broke records at the Cornwall County Track & Field Championships at Par on Saturday.

Northcott, who is ranked seventh in the UK at the under-17 girls’ 300m hurdles with 45.44 seconds, overcame windy conditions on the Cornish coast to win in 46.9 seconds, which was 0.3 of a second inside the old championship record.

Hutchings knocked a massive six seconds of his 1,500m personal best to win the U17 race in 4:04.3, which ranks him in the UK’s top 15.

He was pushed on to that time by club colleagues Jacob and Ben Harrison, who took first and second in the U20 age group. The trio enjoyed a tremendous battle and all finished within 0.3 of a second of each other.  Jacob Harrison clocked 4:04.0 to win and his twin brother Ben ran a PB of 4:04.3.

There was a PB also for Barnaby Hutchings, who won the U15 1,500m in 4:48.0.

Sprinter Lamboll broke the U20 men’s 400m championship best performance with a stunning PB run of 48.7, which ranks him in the UK’s top 10.

Tavistock’s Joe Wheeler, who is in his first year at U20 level, pushed him hard and he finished second in a strong field with 50.9. Joe Bacon was third.

The wind only denied Lamboll the 200m record as he ran 21.9 seconds to beat Cornwall AC’s Micho Tao and Plymouth team-mate Connell McCarthy. McCarthy was also third in the 100m in 11.2 seconds.

Lamara Hammoudeh’s won three titles at Par, setting one new record and equalling another in the process in the under-11 age group.

She ran 11.4 to equal the 75m record before breaking the 150m record with a 22.6 run. She also won the long jump with 3.22m.

Plymouth’s Harriet Beardsmore claimed both the U20 women’s 200m and 400m titles. She clocked a new PB of 59.2 seconds to take victory in the one lap race and ran a wind-assisted 26.1 seconds in the 200m.

Tavistock team-mates Isabelle Doney and Mollie Hobbs had some good battles in the U13 girls’ sprint events.

Doney won the 200m in a PB time of 30.2 seconds, with Hobbs just behind in second with 30.4, while in the 100m, Hobbs took silver in 14.6 and Doney was just behind in 14.7 for bronze.

Club colleague Grace Wonnacott claimed silver in the under-17 girls’ 100m in 13.3 seconds.

Charlotte Doney took third in both the under-15 girls’ 200m (28.6) and 300m (46.9).

Plymouth’s Thomas Sanders bagged silver in the U17 400m with a 56.1 second run, while team-mate Jazz Jackson came third in the U11 600m and took silver in the long jump.

City of Plymouth secured an U17 double in the 800m, with Gregor Norster winning the boys’ event in 2:04.0 and Holly Reid taking the girls’ title in 2:26.2.

Tavistock’s Ruben Ganfield won both the U15 80m hurdles (14.8) and high jump (1.40m), while club colleague Eliza-Jayne Biggadike claimed silver in the U13 long jump with a PB leap of 3.75m.

Harry Tomlin took victory in the U20 javelin with a throw of 46.02m.
