Cornwall/Devon League side Tavistock won the encounter against their lower league hosts 31-10.
Tavistock, playing down the slope first half, had been 26-0 up at break with two tries from full-back Jake Le Gassick and further touchdowns from forwards Seb Cox and Darren Guppy.
In the second half, Argaum did out-score Tavistock two tries to one, with debutant Craig Meleady bagging both scores for them. Tavistock’s second half try came from former Old Techs player Stuart Ansell.
Both clubs were happy with the run out ahead of their league campaigns starting on September 4.
“Second half we made some changes and credit to Argaum, I thought when they spun the ball they looked very good.
“On the whole it was quite a pleasing run-out as we were missing quite a few.”
Argaum head coach Brett Stroud said: “It was our last pre-season game – somewhat unexpected but someone let Tavistock down so we filled in. We thought it was a good fixture to take.
“Tavistock are a well-run club with a good side so it will only help improve us.
“We scored two good tries and I think we can take a lot from this into the league.
“I was really proud of the boys as they really dug in for 80 minutes. I thought it was a really good show.”
