PLYMOUTH Leander swimmer Ruta Meilutyte set another world leading time on the second day of the Mare Nostrum Series in Canet-en-Rousillion.
Just 24 hours after clocking 1:05.46 in the 100m breaststroke event, which was the fastest time of the year, Meilutyte swam 29.88 seconds for the 50m race.
Her time was a new meet record and again knocked controversial Russian Yulia Efimova (30.39) of the top of the 2015 rankings.
Meanwhile, Meilutyte’s Leander team-mate Ben Proud, representing Great Britain, won a bronze medal in the men’s 50m butterfly with a time of 23.82. Proud (pictured left) was just edged out for second by one hundredth of a second by France’s Mehdy Metella. Hungarian Laszlo Cseh won in 23.68.
