The 25-year-old former Plymstock School pupil reached the final of the men’s -100kg category at Glasgow’s SEC.
After receiving a bye in the opening round, he beat New Zealand’s Matthew Rowley in the quarter-finals before overcoming top-seeded Welshman Oliver Barratt in the semi-final to set up a gold medal match with Canadian Kyle Reyes.
However, Gregory had to settle for silver with Reyes edging him out in front a passionate crowd.
The Plymothian, though, was delighted to medal after an injury-hit few years.
“I’m so happy with what’s happened,” he said afterwards.
“So many of my family are here to see me, so doing that in front of them is great.”
He added: “Every time I’ve got injured, I’ve always returned better, and it’s given me real opportunities to renew myself as an athlete and bounce back stronger.
“I’m really looking forward to what’s coming – I’ll keep knuckling down and hopefully at LA 2028 I’ll be there.”
