The pair have been named in a 98-strong GB team for the home championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
Both their places in the men’s steeplechase and women’s 10,000m, respectively, are subject to European ranking places, which will be confirmed on July 30, but it is expected they will make the list given their current positions.
Former Ivybridge Community College pupil Battershill, who finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase at June’s UK Championship, has represented Great Britain at cross country and at last year’s European Team Championships, but next month’s Birmingham event would be his first major senior track championships for GB.
Tank, who also finished as runner-up in the British Championships, has also represented Great Britain at cross country but has yet to represent them on the track.
However, the former Plymouth College student made her major championship track debut on Monday night when she competed for Team England in the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In a strong race, dominated by Australian and African athletes, Tank finished 12th in 32:50.83, which was just 0.02 of a second behind her England team-mate Izzy Fry, who was 11th. Scotland’s Megan Keith, who will join Tank and Fry in the GB team next month, came ninth.
“Neal Edwards is a sprint and hurdles coach here for Team England and is from my club – City of Plymouth – and at lunchtime he sat down and read out some good luck messages to me,” said Tank after her race.
“It was really emotional. I was just sat eating my lunch and thinking just how nice it was.
“One girl said I was a really big role model for her, and it was such a nice feeling to have someone from my own club look up to me. It was really special.”
On her Commonwealth Games debut, she added: “It was an amazing experience. We were told this is the highest level you can represent England so I’m very proud to have made the team.”
Great Britain have named a strong team for the European Championships. The squad includes the likes of Keely Hodgkinson, Georgia Hunter-Bell, Dina Asher-Smith, Katerina Johnson-Thompson, Matt Hudson-Smith, Zharnel Hughes and another former Devon Schools’ athlete, Innes Fitzgerald.

The championships will take place between August 10 and August 16.
