DEVONPORT Services II captain Elliott Lupson was thrilled to lead the team to a third trophy of the season on Monday.
Services II had already won the Counties Two Devon title, the Devon 2nd XV Cup and on Monday added the Lockie Cup to their trophy cabinet as well by beating Plymouth Argaum 45-7.
It has been a campaign to remember for Devonport’s second string.
“It’s been really good from the boys,” said Lupson. “We have worked quite hard.
“Our goal mid-way through the season was to try and finish on a high and win all three trophies. And everyone dug deep, got to training and put in the effort to achieve that.
“We are now just looking forward to next year and the challenge that will bring.”
Services II will be playing in Counties One Western West next season, which was the level Devonport’s first team were playing at when Lupson joined them.
“There are some players, like myself and a few others, that when they first started playing for Services, the first team were in the league that the second team are going to be going into,” he said.
“When you look how far the club has gone, it is a hell of an achievement.
“It started with Mikey Lewis and us getting our first promotion and then Ben Russell getting us twice into National Two.
“A lot of lads that have been around the club for years have just dug deep and played second team rugby just to give the club a good base to help push the club forward.
“The thirds are also going into the league next year as well and that will mean competitive rugby each week for 56 senior players, plus there will also be the colts so that will be 76 players out every week.”
