PLYMOUTH international hurdler David King warmed up for this month’s British Indoor Championships with a season’s best run to medal at the Metz Meeting in France at the weekend.
King clocked 7.66 seconds to take second behind Jamaica’s Damian Thomas at the World Athletics Silver Tour event. He also ran 7.70 seconds in the heats in France.
King is ranked second in the UK rankings at the moment behind GB rival Andy Pozzi, who clocked 7.63 seconds on his comeback last week.
The pair are the only GB athletes to run under 7.80 seconds so far this season and will both have their eyes on trying to secure selection for the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Evans-Shield, a three-times English Schools’ champion, threw 45.15m on her under-20 debut as she finished fourth in the international event. It is the first time she has thrown over 45m and moves her straight to the top of the UK rankings.
On the road, Tamar Trotters’ Oliver Oldfield claimed a top 10 finish at the Newquay 10k on Sunday. He clocked 34.27 minutes to take ninth.
Tom Wraight was not far behind as he clocked 34.59 minutes to finish as first M40, while Plymouth Harriers’ Jack Dee was second under-20 athlete in 35.42 minutes.
Tavistock AC’s Carole Walters claimed the F60 prize with a 48.36-minute run, while Tamar Trotters’ Steve Baker was first M65 and team-mate Richard Morton was second M70.
