GALLERY: Ocean City enjoy a memorable first season in girls’ football

OCEAN City Youth under-12 girls have enjoyed a dream first season in competitive football.

The side, coached by former Plymouth Albion flanker Brett Stroud and managed by Shaun Jones, were only founded last summer, but have stormed to a league title and are in a county cup semi-final.

The team secured the DJM League Ocean Division crown on Saturday by overcoming Plymouth Aspire Youth 6-0 at Marsh Mills thanks to five goals from top scorer Aaliyah Mcadam and one from Molly Stroud.

City are undefeated all season and have scored a staggering 60 goals and only conceded four in their nine league games.

They will be hoping to add to their success when they play Exeter outfit Central Youth Wildcats in the Devon Under-12s Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

“Myself and Shaun are incredibly proud as they have been outstanding this season,” said Stroud, who also coaches Devon One rugby side Plymouth Argaum RFC. “We could not have asked for anymore from them.”

Their successful squad this season has been Molly Stroud, Maisie Powel-Rider, Kiana Norcross, Emily Strachan, Freya Weeks, Faith Walsh, Kiera Cridge, Aaliyah Mcadam and Keisha Povey.
