City of Plymouth athlete Weir makes winning debut in America

CITY of Plymouth international Victoria Weir enjoyed a winning debut in America at the weekend.

After graduating for the University of Birmingham, Weir has moved to Oregon to study for a master’s degree at Portland University, where she is part of the women’s athletics team.

She competed at her first event at the weekend – the Western Oregon University Sundowner – and stormed to victory.

Weir, who represented Great Britain at under-20 level, won by more than 20 seconds at Ash Creek Preserve.

She clocked 22:17.4, with her new team-mate Ellie Misuraca taking second in 22:38.9. Fellow Portland athlete Grace Ritchie made it a one-two-three for the university by taking third in 22.41.9.

Weir follows her City of Plymouth international colleague Poppy Tank in studying in America. Tank is at Utah University.
