Mount Kelly’s Burdisso warms up for World Champs with silver medal at Setti Colli

MOUNT Kelly College’s Federico Burdisso warmed up for next month’s World Aquatic Championships by winning a silver medal at the Setti Colli Trophy meeting in his native Italy at the weekend.

The 17-year-old clocked 1:55.21 to take second behind Hungary’s European champion and world silver medallist Kristof Milak.

Burdisso did beat former Olympic and world 200m butterfly champion Chad le Clos, who took third in 1:55.68.

The Mount Kelly pupil, who has been busy doing his A levels, also reached the final of the 100m butterfly where he finished eighth in 52.68 seconds.

Burdisso, who last year won a European senior bronze medal at the age of just 16, is currently ranked sixth overall in the 200m butterfly in the world.
