CITY of Plymouth’s Poppy Northcott moved into the UK’s top 20 for the under-13 girls’ 800m on Tuesday night with a tremendous performance at the BMC meeting in Exeter.
Northcott knocked more than eight seconds of her previous best time to run 2:24.96 minutes to win the women’s C race on the evening.
That was a new City of Plymouth club record and ranks her 18th in the UK. She is actually the top performing first-year under-13 by nearly two seconds.
However, she was not the only athlete from the region to impress at Exeter Arena on Tuesday.
In the men’s 1,500m event, City of Plymouth’s Jake Hughes came fourth in 4:03.88, while Erme Valley’s Liam Hallows set a new PB of 4:27.37.
Fellow Erme Valley runner Nathan Brown came third in the men’s 800m in 1:57.54.
There was a new PB over two laps for Tavistock’s under-15 athlete Joe Dix, who clocked 2:15.10 to win the men’s D 800m race. City of Plymouth’s Oliver Woodmason, also under-15, ran 2:15.84 in the C race.
Tavistock’s Emma Ryder came second in the women’s A 800m behind Cardiff’s Naomi Reid. Ryder, an English Schools’ finalist, clocked 2:17.05.
There was a PB for her club colleague Joely Bytheway, who ran 2:26.28 to finish second in the B 800m race, just ahead of Erme Valley’s under-15 athlete Ella Isaias, who also set a new lifetime best of 2:27.98.
