Mount Kelly swimmer Burdisso claims four medals at European Junior Champs

MOUNT Kelly College’s Federico Burdisso enjoyed an impressive European Junior Swimming Championships.

The 17-year-old picked up four medals for Italy at the event in Helsinki, Finland.

He took silver in the men’s 200m butterfly in a new personal best time and national junior record of 1:56.40. He was only beaten by Hungarian star Kristof Milak.

Burdisso also claimed a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay for Italy. They just narrowly missed out on gold, with Russia just touching before them.

The Mount Kelly pupil then claimed two bronze medals on the final day of the championships.

He took third in the individual 100m butterfly with a 52.88 second swim. He also added a bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Burdisso just missed out on another medal in the 4x100m mixed medley relay where Italy were fourth. He was also part of his country’s 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m mixed freestyle relay teams, who both finished sixth.

Burdisso will now move on to Glasgow to compete in the senior European Championships.
