DEVONPORT Royal swimmer Abigail Daly claimed five new personal best times on her debut at the British Para Swimming International Meet in Sheffield.
The 12-year-old had qualified to compete in six events in the S14 category (intellectual disabilities) of the national part of the competition, which was streamed live by British Swimming on the internet.
She set new best marks in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle.
The city swimmer was the youngest swimmer to reach the national 200m freestyle final and finished fifth overall with a five second PB of 2:46.74.
Daly knocked 16 seconds of her 400m PB to make the top 10 with a 5:51.47 swim.
In the final of the 100m butterfly, she cut her long-course PB down by seven seconds with a time of 1:35.67. That was her first major final.
Her performances at Ponds Forge will have given her confidence for the future. She was mentioned as being one of the next generation of British swimmers coming through the ranks by the commentators on the British Swimming live feed.
The friendship, respect and determination of the young swimmers shone through they were a joy to watch and in my eyes were all winners as they rallied round and supported each other no matter which club they were from or disability they had. Very proud of what they all achieved. It was a fantastic event to watch.
