Age group records broken at February’s Tavy 5kool Run

JOHN PORTER and Natasha Farrington broke age group course records on their way to second-placed finishes in February’s Tavy 5kool Run.

Plymouth Harriers’ over-45 veteran Porter enjoyed a good battle with Royal Navy runner Bart Thomas in Saturday’s event.

Thomas had finished second in Wednesday’s Armada Winter 3k Series run, but he took victory at Tavistock in 16.47 minutes.

Porter, though, pushed him all the way and was just three second behind in 16.50, which was a new best for an over-45 athlete.

Third was Tavistock’s Tom Brew in 17.11, with Plymouth Musketeers’ over-50 veteran Alan Ryder enjoying a good run in fourth, with Tavistock over-55 veteran Richard Drage in fifth.

Host club Tavistock dominated the women’s results.  Jennifer Sabine was first women home in 19.56 minutes, but team-mate Farrington was not too far behind. She clocked 20.07 minutes to set a new under-17 course record.

Tavistock’s under-15 athlete Tilly McDowell was third women home in 21.19 minutes.

Fellow over-50 athlete Holmes was 10th overall and second in his age category behind Hall in 1:31:16.
