CITY of Plymouth’s James Arnott will compete at April’s Commonwealth Games.
Arnott will join his club colleague David King in Australia after being named as part of Team England’s 18-strong para-athlete squad.
The 20-year-old, who has limited movement in his left shoulder due to Erbs Palsy, will run in the T47 100m at the Gold Coast competition, which starts on April 4.
Joining him in the England team will be Paralympic and world champions Sophie Hahn and Kadeena Cox.
Sarah Winckless, Chef de Mission for Commonwealth Games England, said after the squad was named on Monday morning: “This is the largest para programme that the Commonwealth Games has ever delivered and I am very pleased to be welcoming these athletes as part Team England.
“They will join the 75 athletes who were announced earlier this year, and will be our largest group of athletes from one sport.
“This para group is multi-talented and very strong, and I would particularly like to point out Jade Jones who will both be competing on the track, and taking her turn at the triathlon venue, a first for Team England.”
Arnott, who trains in Hertfordshire, gained experience of competing in Australia earlier this year when he represented England at the Nitro Athletics Series, which was held in Melbourne.
