Plymouth Diving enjoy successful trip to Dublin for Irish Open

PLYMOUTH Diving enjoyed a highly-success trip to Dublin to take part in the Irish Open at the weekend.

The Life Centre-based club returned home with a host of medals across all the different age groups.

In the senior events, talented youngsters Aidan Heslop and Connor West took silver and bronze in the men’s platform competition behind London’s Ben Cutmore.

There was only two points separating junior internationals Heslop and Cutmore.  Cutmore scored 349.70 points, with Heslop just missing gold with 347.40 points.

However, there were gold medals in the junior categories for Aimee Fishleigh, Joshua Hughes and Lilly Walker.

Fishleigh triumphed in the girls’ A one-metre event, with team-mate Alice Burdett fifth in the same final. Burdett did win a silver in the three-metre competition, where Fishleigh was fourth.

Hughes’ gold came in the boys’ B platform event, while he also claimed a silver in the three-metre and a bronze in the one-metre. Colleague Sam Isaac just missed out joining Hughes on the podium with fourth placings in the two springboard competitions.

Walker’s victory came in the E girls’ novice event, where team-mate Yvie Tucker was fourth.

Katie Martin bagged three silver medals in the E2/D events. Team-mate Ellie Pearce picked up bronze behind her in the one-metre competition, with Maia Pearson fourth and Scarlett Colbourne fifth. Pearson won bronze in the three-metre.

Ben Bluett picked up two silver medals in the boys’ C three-metre and platform competitions.

There were also silver medals for Ollie Heath in the E boys’ novice event and Ben Kearton in the boy’s D novice competition, while Evie McCabe won a bronze in the girls’ B platform, with team-mate Abby Fishleigh fourth. There were also bronze medals for Millie Aryes in the girls’ C three-metre, Georgina McCoy in the girls’ B novice event and Oscar Hart in the boys’ D novice competition.

In addition, there were top eight places for Olivia Hall, Lucy Gutierrez-Freeman, Morgan Boyd, Calvin Krimmelbein and Cody Powell-Tuckett, who competed in the senior women’s platform event.

Meanwhile, fellow Plymouth diver Matthew Dixon  had to withdraw from the finals of the men’s platform event and the synchro competition at the FINA Grand Prix on the Gold Coast due to a back injury.

Dixon had progressed through the preliminary round and the semi-finals in Australia on the Friday, but was not fit enough for Sunday’s finals.
